Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
1 Peter 5:6-9
The only thing that came easy last week was sleep. Following each nap came guilt and shame.
What’s with the exhaustion? I have no major ordeal that I am facing. If you know me or read my blogs you know my trials are moderate at best. No loss, no terminal diagnosis, and no financial problems.
God does not promise not to give us more than we can handle, but I didn’t correct her. Even though I know this to be inaccurate doctrine, it was echoing around in my sub conscience.
If God does not give us more than we can handle, then my feelings of failure are warranted. However, the father of lies takes scripture and twists it to deceive us. There are many good articles that help explain how 1 Corinthians 10:13 is being twisted to cause more harm than good.
1 Corinthians 10:13
Studying scripture, so that we can identify false doctrine is so important. If a little voice inside you whispers that something someone has told you isn’t true, listen to it. Even when it is a trusted Christian friend, take the issue to God. Research it and let the light of God’s infallible word shine on it and expose the lie. Do not let it go unchecked.
My story is not worth being told; it would not be useful to others who are struggling to obey God. I’ve missed my own deadline, so I should just skip it. I’ll never get published, so this is a good time just to give up. Others do a better job than I do anyway. Who needs one more sorry sap telling their story?
Lies by an adversary who wants to take us down, cause us to stumble. But, once we recognize the lies as lies they loose their grip. Ask God for discernment to recognize the lies. Spiritual warfare is real, and with God’s help we can learn to fight against it.
Time to Talk
Cheerleaders who may not understand your struggle, but believe in what you are doing are also important.
Sometimes it is also necessary to find a Christian Counselor to help you. We all need help at different seasons of our lives. God has given others the skills and they have received the formal training needed to guide us and teach us how to learn from what is going on and what has shaped us.
We are not alone in this fight. God has strategically placed the resources in our lives to help us through difficult times. We just need to ask for help and keep asking till we get the help we need. If you do not speak up the devil wins, he will try to convince you that no one wants to hear you, no one wants to help you. That is a lie.
Just before Christmas I contacted my pastor and asked for a Stephens Minister. She is wonderful, often she just listens or sends a prayer via text. She is someone who wants to help, and who has successfully navigated similar trials. She is compassionate and willing to take the time to talk.
Cast Your Cares
The road ahead with my parents may improve for a while, but aging is a relentless foe. The time will come when they can’t care for themselves, and resources are not adequate to provide for their needs. More and more of my time will be required to care for them.
Tough decisions lie ahead. They may resent me for changes that will eventually need to be made.
I can’t control what comes next.
Are you casting your cares upon Christ?
